Herpes Tarihi
1893' de Fransız bilim insanı Emile Vidal herp3sin bir insandan diğerine bulaştığını kanıtladı.
1884' de Amerikalı dermatolog herpesin egzama ve pemfigus gibi bulaşıcı olmayan rahatsızlıklardan farklı olduğunu kanıtladı.
1886' da Fransız doktor Charles-Paul Diday ve Adrien Doyon Genital herpes isimli bir kitap yayınladılar. Virüsleri keşfeden 1893'de Rusya'da Dmitri Ivanovski oldu. Dmitri ivanovski tütün virüslerini incelemesine rağmen daha sonra herpes araştırmaları önem kazandı.
1896 da alman Doktor Paul unna Herpes ve frengiyi birbirinde ayırt etme yöntemini buldu. Bu zaman kadar bu iki rahatsızlık birbirinden ayırt edilemiyordu.
1913'de Alman göz doktoru Wilhelm Grater, herpes virüsünü herpesli birisinden bir tavşanın göz korneasına bulaştırdı ve bunu da tekrar başka bir insana bulaştırdı ve bunun adına great test dendi. 1940 lara kadar bu test herpese tanı koymada kullanıldı.
1925'te Amerikan virolog Ernest Goodpasture, herpesin kanda değil sinirler de hareket ettiğini ispatladı.
1939'da Avusturyalı mikrobiyolog Frank LacFarlane Burnet herpesin gizli olarak var olduğu teorisini ortaya attı. (Herpesin uyku moduna girmesi dediğimiz olay yani bizi rahatsız etmiyor ve çıkmıyor bir süre ama yine de vücudumuzda bulunuyor). 1971' de Jack Stevens ve Marjorie Cook bu teoriyi kanıtladı.
1978'de ilk etkili ilaç olan asiklovir Gertrude Elion tarafından geliştirildi ve 1981'de piyasaya çıktı.
Daha etkili ilaç olan valtrex 1995'te piyasaya çıktı.
1995'ten günümüze yani yaklaşık 30 yıldır hiç bir etkili ilaç veya aşı üretilemedi... Umuyoruz yakın gelecekte daha iyi ilaçlar ya da tamamen bitirecek aşılar bulunur.

- In 1893, French scientist Emile Vidal proved through experimentation that herpes was transmitted from one person to another.
- In 1884 Louis Duhring, an American dermatologist, confirmed that herpes was different from eczema and pemphigus, which are non-contagious skin conditions.
Two years later, in 1886, French doctors Charles-Paul Diday and Adrien Doyon published a full-length book about herpes called "The Genital Herpes."
Viruses were discovered by Dmitri Ivanovski in Russia in 1893. Although Ivanovski was studying tobacco viruses, not herpes viruses, his research later became important for studying herpes.
In 1896 German physician Paul Unna develops a way to differentiate herpes from syphilis under a microscope. This is important because previously it was not possible to identify the difference between herpes and syphilis since they often occurred concurrently.
Herpes in the 1900's
1913: Wilhelm Grater, a German ophthalmologist, is able to transmit the herpes virus from an infected person to the cornea of a rabbit and back again to a human . This is named the Grater test, which is used to diagnose herpes until the 1940's.
In 1925 an American virologist, Ernest Goodpasture, proves that the herpes virus travels through the nerves, not the blood.
In 1939, Frank LacFarlane Burnet, an Australian microbiologist, develop the theory of latency, or the fact that the herpes virus resides in the ganglions while there are no symptoms. In 1971 scientists Jack Stevens and Marjorie Cook prove it.
A French scientist, Arnaud Tzanck develops cryto-diagnosis for herpes, which replaces the Grater test.
In 1978, the first anti-viral drug, Acyclovir, that was safe, non-toxic, and effective is tested in humans. It was developed by Gertrude Elion, and three years later was available commercially.
In 1995, Glaxo Smithkline Started to trade valtrex. Since 1995 there has not been any better drug or treatment for almost 30 years.
We hope to have a better cure or a vaccine which can complately eradicate the virus from our bodies.
